"THE BEST" Business Awards 2009

Four Chamber Members Recognized at Annual Holiday Celebration

Honored by the Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber of Commerce were three outstanding local businesses and one "chamber citizen" at the annual THE BEST Business Awards and Holiday Celebration held last week at the Mount Vernon Country Club.

ServiceMaster of Alexandria was recognized as THE BEST Large Business of the Year, Chevys Fresh Mex Restaurant as THE BEST Small Business of the year, and Occasionally Cake THE BEST New Business of the Year.  Richard F. "Rick" Neel, was honored as THE BEST Chamber Citizen of the Year.

Mount Vernon Supervisor Gerry Hyland, Mount Vernon saluted the award winners along with Lee District Supervisor Jeff McKay, and Springfield Supervisor Pat Herrity.

Supervisor McKay commented on the economic situation by saying that Fairfax County was still the best place to get through the current recession citing the new jobs coming to the area through the BRAC at Fort Belvoir.

The evening was jointly emceed by Jeff Todd, Roy Rogers Restaurants and Steve Chaconas, National Bass Guide Service.  The fun "gift exchange" was enjoyed along with holiday carols performed by Darren Taylor of the USO Band.

Receiving the Chamber Citizen award, Rick Neel was recognized for his ten years of service as president of the SFDC.   "Rick has made Richmond Highway a better place for all of us," said Jeff Todd.  "Rick stepped up to the challenge, accepted a responsibility, and has made a difference."
