Meet the Candidates for the Board of Directors
Chamber members will have a difficult choice in selecting only five new members of the Board of Directors. New Directors will be elected by the membership at the Annual Meeting, to fill a three year term. Ballots will be delivered in the mail the first week in January.
The Annual Meeting will be Thursday, January 24, 2007, at the Mount Vernon Country Club, 5111 Old Mill Road, Alexandria, VA. Networking reception at 6:30 p.m. with dinner and the program at 7:30 p.m. Keynote speaker will be Dr. Robert Templin, President of Northern Virginia Community College. RESERVATIONS

Krisjan Berzins
Kingstowne Lawn & Landscaping
Krisjan Berzins is the co-Founder and Vice President of Kingstowne Lawn & Landscape. He has been happily married for seven years with two lovely daughters, 6 and 3 years old. He is a graduate of Mount Vernon High School and attended Randolph Macon College. Krisjan lives in the Lorton area. Kingstowne Lawn & Landscaping currently employs 45 people and grosses more than $5.25 million dollars annually.
Krisjan has been a member of the Chamber since 2002. He has supported (and won!) the Golf Tournament and was one of the four presenters in the Business Development Committee’s Best Practices Seminars presented to local business people and Future Business Leaders of America students.
As a successful businessman, Krisjan offers his experience in founding and growing a business in the Mount Vernon Lee area. He will bring a fresh perspective and enthusiasm to the Board of Directors.
Steven Chaconas
National Bass Guide Service
“Capt. Steve” has been a Chamber member for seven years, since the inception of his National Bass Guide Service. Steve has served on the Chamber board and numerous committees. He is currently a member of the Business Development Committee.
A former business radio talk show host, Steve brings his appreciation of small business to the Mount Vernon Chamber, often lending a hand to emcee Chamber events.
A firm MVLCC supporter, Steve has worked on membership drives, believing member retention and involvement is as important as recruitment. MVLCC offers networking, leadership experience, and the opportunity to “get to know” other members. Business with other MVLCC members is his priority!
Barbara Doyle
Inova Mount Vernon Hospital
Barbara Doyle is the CEO of Inova Mount Vernon Hospital, a 237 bed community hospital in Alexandria, VA. She is also a Senior Vice President of the Inova Health System located in Falls Church, VA. Barbara has been with Inova since June of 2006.
Ms. Doyle has more than 25 years experience in health care management, administration and nursing. Before coming to Inova she served at Winchester Hospital in Winchester, MA, as Vice President, Patient Care and Ambulatory Services and Chief Nursing Officer and Administrator of Ambulatory Services. She holds a Master’s degree in Health Administration and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Emmanuel College in Massachusetts as well as a RN diploma from Lynn Hospital School of Nursing in Massachusetts.
Barbara is extremely committed to the community the hospital serves and believes community involvement in key organizations like the Mount Vernon Chamber will enhance that relationship.
Sylvia Gethicker
VSE Corporation
Sylvia Gethicker is the Communications Director for VSE Corporation, 2550 Huntington Ave. VSE was recently ranked fourth on the annual Forbes Magazine list of the top 200 small businesses in America.
Sylvia is a retired Marine Corps photojournalist/newspaper editor/public and media relations specialist. She is currently President of the United States Marine Corps Combat Correspondence Association Washington, D.C. chapter.
After her Marine Corps career she also spent several years as a stand-up comic; and Senior Account Manager at a public relations and marketing in D.C. She has two children at home and her eldest is a new doctor serving in a hospital in Tampa.
Daniel Sanders
Four Sales Ltd.
Daniel Sanders brings more than 15 years international business operations and marketing experience to Four Sales Ltd. Before leading Four Sales, Sanders ran a 32-country business for 3M in Europe, worked with start-up businesses in the United States and Canada, and was responsible for business development for a government contractor.
As the President of Four Sales, Sanders is responsible for all operational activities of the company. In addition to running his company, Sanders is an active participant in the community with membership in a variety of professional and civic organizations. Sanders received a MS in Management and International Marketing from the Boston University and a BA in Economics from Drew University.
As a Chamber of Commerce Board Member, Sanders proposes to use the “insider knowledge” and contacts he and his classmates are gaining from the Potomac Leaders Forum (EVERY chamber member should apply next year!) to increase visibility and trade in the MVL district of Fairfax County. He would like to work to ensure that each and every member is given the opportunity and tools to profit as a result of chamber membership.
Tim Sargeant
Dominion Virginia
Tim Sargeant is a Manager of State and Local Affairs for Dominion. His responsibilities include government, business and community relations. Mr. Sargeant works with elected officials, business and community leaders on behalf of Dominion subsidiaries, including Dominion Virginia Power. Tim joined the company in February 2007, after ten years as corporate spokesman and director of media relations for Washington Gas. Before entering the corporate world, he was a radio network newscaster and reporter for the Associated Press in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Sargeant was appointed by the Board of Supervisors in 2007 as an At-Large Member of the Fairfax County Planning Commission. He also was appointed by the Board, and serves as chair, of the Laurel Hill Project Advisory Committee, which oversees the adaptive reuse plans for the former prison buildings at the Laurel Hill site in Lorton. Tim and his wife Nancy have lived in the Mt. Vernon district since 1991. Their two children attend South County Secondary School.
Barbara Sullivan is the Marketing Director for Paul Springs Retirement Center, located at 7116 Fort Hunt Road. She has actively participated in the Chamber’s Meals on Wheels program.

Barbara has been a resident of Virginia for 20 years. Formerly a native of Ocean City, New Jersey, she attended Mount Vernon College in Washington, D.C., and was graduated with a joint degree in business administration and political science and an associate degree in marketing. Barbara worked on Capitol Hill before marrying her husband, Barry Sullivan.
In 1991, Barbara started her own business as a travel consultant and meeting planning advisor. Barbara is active in the local community, helping with school, church, and youth athletics activities. She and her husband have three sons. Barbara is a former President and Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce.
Tony Riolo
Burke & Herbert Bank & Trust Co.
Tony Riolo is a Vice President and Loan Officer specializing in commercial and mortgage lending at Burke & Herbert’s Franconia office.
As a graduate of George Mason University and a long-time (more than 40 years) resident of Lee District, he has a thorough knowledge and strong interest in all issues affecting our community.
He is a three term director of the Chamber, having served as Budget Chairperson, and has been involved with the many positive changes that have occurred. Tony wants to continue his involvement as the Chamber grows and become s a bigger player in Fairfax County. Your consideration and support are greatly appreciated.
